Region’s firms need to act on sustainable business pledges following COP26
East Anglian commercial finance broker Complete Commercial Finance is urging the region’s business leaders to take action to ensure their company’s operations are sustainable, following the two-week COP26 UN conference on climate change.
With the UK’s pledge to net zero emissions by 2050, the company is warning that many SMEs have yet to take the first steps towards evaluating their carbon emissions, ahead of addressing their environmental footprint and switching to sustainable operations.
“As a business finance broker, we help many companies to fund capital investment into plant, machinery and premises, along with fleet vehicles,” says Complete Commercial Finance’s Michael Moore, “and yet the number of companies focusing on green technology, sustainable solutions and electric vehicles represents just a small percentage of loan applications.
“Many SMEs have yet to evaluate their carbon footprint, the starting point for creating a carbon neutral, sustainable business. In a region dominated by manufacturing, food processing and tourism, many of which bear a heavy environmental footprint, companies have a long way to go to ensure they are fit for the new ‘green’ economy.
“There is a growing number of lenders who are ready to help companies to fund investment into sustainable business solutions. From the electrifying of fleet vehicles to the building of carbon negative homes, now is the time for business owners to act to ensure they are not left behind.”
